Bermuda is suffering from a higher-than-normal amount of flu cases, although not as severely as in the US, according to chief medical officer Dr. John Cann.

Though he was unable to provide statistics, Dr. Cann confirmed that the Emergency Room at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital has seen a ?higher than usual? number of flu cases.

However, he added: ?We have not had the same experience as the US, where people have died from the flu.

?Bermuda does not normally experience the same severity of cases as the US, partly by luck and partly because of our small size.?

The flu has been running rampant in other parts of the world, while a shortage of the flu-vaccine is not helping matters.

Bermuda is also experiencing a shortage of the vaccine. Unable to purchase anymore from the US, the Department of Health was able to import some from Canada recently. The Health Department said supplies are so limited that only those at most risk from the flu are allowed to receive it.
