Southampton residents are to get a health clinic - when Government locates the ownership deeds to the land it will be built on.

The facility - on the area of land located near the Port Royal Primary School - would be along the same lines as similar places in Sandys and St. George's, giving locals access to a range of services without having to go into Hamilton.

Health Minister Nelson Bascome has instructed Southampton Parish Council to seek legal advice from the Attorney General's Chamber to serve notice to the previous holders of the deeds - council members who served under the UBP Government.

"We don't anticipate any problems with the developments," he said. "But it is Government land and we need to know where the property ends or begins. It's a large wooded area and we want to also develop a sidewalk. But we have not located the deeds. Hopefully we can locate the deeds and put them back into the hands of who they rightfully belong."

And according to the Parish Council members, other official documents such as financial reports have also been missing since the change over of the council.

However, Mr. Bascome said that plans are moving forward with the development of the clinic, which he said will offer more convenient health care services to seniors and children.

"We are trying to decentralise our clinic (in Hamilton)," he said. "We want this one to be on line with the clinics in Sandys, St. George's and Smith's. It would be next to the school and it would be good for seniors who live in that area, so they do not have to travel into Hamilton."

Although Mr. Bascome could not say when the project was to commence, he said signs of development would be seen before the year is out.

The land was previously occupied by Adventure Land Nursery.
