The Opposition will get the chance to attack Government?s record on housing when the Budget debate continues in the House of Assembly today. The United Bermuda Party has allocated two hours to the subject this morning and is expected to criticise the Progressive Labour Party for not having a plan to tackle the housing crisis. Works and Engineering and Housing Minister Ashfield DeVent outlined Government?s programme in the Budget debate on Monday, saying work will start on 53 apartments in the coming year at a cost of $12 million.

The Opposition began replying towards the end of the debate and will give a detailed critique this morning.

MPs will also debate Government?s spending plans for the Attorney General?s Chambers, Department of Public Prosecutions, Police and Prisons in the afternoon.

Also scheduled for discussion are second readings on the Payroll Tax Amendment Act, the Payroll Tax Rates Amendment Act, the Public Treasury Amendment Act, and the Bermuda Monetary Authority Amendment Act.

Meanwhile, Senators will debate two items which should be non-contentious: the second readings of the Bermuda Monetary Authority Amendment Act and the Copyright and Designs Act.
