Hunt on for assailant

Police have intensified their search for a 23-year-old Pembroke man accused of stabbing a 19-year-old woman Sunday morning.

The woman was raced to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital around 3.45 a.m. after she suffered a puncture wound to her abdomen.

Last night the young woman was moved to a general ward and was said to be in stable condition, resting comfortably.

Police have issued a plea for witnesses who may have been present at the time of the incident, which occurred outside of the Show Time Night Club in Dockyard.

The young Warwick victim and several of her friends were harassed, threatened and physically assaulted by the man after he jumped into their taxi uninvited outside of the West End club.

The driver of the taxi had to get out to calm tensions between them, and when the victim got out of the cab to try and address the attacker, he stabbed her with an unknown object.

Sunday night, relatives of the victim said that she was very shaken by the incident and they hoped that Police would move swiftly to arrest the attacker.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have information surrounding the attack are asked to call Insp. Stuart Crockwell at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers hotline at 1-800-623-8477.
