The week-long industrial action on buses which has hit routes Island-wide is set to end today.

Public Transportation Board Director Dan Simmons announced yesterday the bus operators' work to rule action had concluded and all bus services are expected to return to normal today.

Mr. Simmons said: "Buses will run per usual and I want to especially thank the public for their patience during this time of uncertainty."

The dispute had been sparked by the non-payment of back-pay, three months after an arbitration panel had awarded it to around 1,000 Government industrial workers.

The Royal Gazette understands that money was paid yesterday morning but more than three-dozen runs were cancelled along with nine school runs yesterday because of sick-outs.

The dispute has also hit garbage collections.

Last night Bermuda Industrial Union president Derrick Burgess said: "The money has been paid and, as I understand it, everyone is working."
