A lawyer who allegedly attempted to obtain Bermudian status by using false documents appeared in Magistrates? Court on Friday.

Robert William Martyn, 41, of Smith?s, appeared before Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves.

Martyn, a lawyer for Westbury Ltd., owned by Canadian billionaire Michael DeGroote, is accused of conspiring to defraud the Chief Immigration Officer in 2000 to obtain Bermudian status for his father, William Robert Martyn. And he is accused of knowingly and fraudulently uttering a false birth certificate in his own name, on or about September 18, 2000.

Martyn is also accused of giving Chief Immigration Officer Martin Brewer information which he did not believe to be true that caused Mr. Brewer to grant him status.

Martyn, who is represented by Victoria Pearman and Craig Attridge, was granted $25,000 bail and will appear for mention on March 17.
