Lister explains mention in BHC case

yesterday told Parliament about how one of his houses came to be mentioned by a key witness in the BHC fraud trial.

Mr. Lister?s name cropped up in testimony from carpenter Steven Barbosa who has been giving evidence on how he had repeatedly submitted overpriced invoices to the Bermuda Housing Corporation after being encouraged by property officer Terrence Smith.

Smith has denied 46 fraud charges.

In court on Tuesday, Mr. Barbosa read out an invoice for repair work done at one of Mr. Lister?s homes in 2001.

Yesterday Mr. Lister explained he had let BHC manage the property between 1989 and 2003.

In 2001 he said he had taken a call saying the doors and windows and been smashed and BHC had said they would fix it.

When he checked a while later the work had been done and he thought no more about it.

?You can imagine my shock when yesterday I learned that my house was part of the investigation. It had nothing to do with me personally.?
