Man wounded in street fight

A 23-year-old man was wounded by a machete-wielding man and a car was damaged when he was later chased by men throwing bottles, Police said yesterday.

The man was standing with a group of friends on the corner of Court and Elliott Streets on Monday morning when he was approached by another man who started an argument.

During the argument another man became involved and hit him in the forearm with a machete when he raised his arms to protect his head.

The man and his friends were chased. When they tried to escape in his mother?s car, it was damaged when some of the men threw bottles at it, smashing the rear window and denting the roof.

The man was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital receiving four stitches on his forearm. He was later released.
