Devonshire may be home to an additional house of worship should New Creation church receive planning approval to build off Middle Road.

The proposed church would be built on a now-vacant lot near the new Montessori school in Devonshire.

The land is owned by Cable and Wireless and the 2.9 acre lot is zoned as institutional space.

The church proponents are hoping to subdivide the lot in order to build the new worship centre and Cable and Wireless supported their submission for "in principle" planning approval for the building.

The New Creation Worship Centre would include a large tower, church hall and parking for 70 cars and 70 cycles according to the plans submitted to the Planning Department.

If approved, the building will cover nine percent of the lot with a proposed 26,676 square foot complex.

However, New Creation pastor Jimmie Denwiddie told The Royal Gazette plans for the centre are only in the earliest stages.

Pastor Denwiddie said the church is looking at three to five years of fundraising before undertaking any construction pending planning approval.

New Creation - a nondenominational Christian group - currently worships on Sunday and Tuesdays at Purvis Primary School, Cedar Hill, Warwick.

New Creation was founded three years ago and now has roughly 150 members and 200 service attendees on Sundays.

The church also operates a youth group which meets on Fridays.
