New names appointed to head up Government boards
With the announcement of the 2005 Government Boards, several chairmanships have been changed.
Former premier Jennifer Smith has been named as chair of the Historic Wrecks Authority, which was created in 2001 with the passing of legislation protecting Bermuda?s shipwrecks and associated artefacts. The former chair was Edward (Teddy) Tucker, Bermuda?s famed treasure hunter. Ms. Smith also serves on the Stamp Design Advisory Committee.
Ms. Smith joins other MPs who already head up Government Boards and Committees, including Wayne Perinchief, the chair of the Air Advisory Committee, Randy Horton, chair of the Labour Advisory Council and Ottiwell Simmons, chair of the Board of Works and Engineering and the Board of War Pensions Comissioners.
Former PLP MP Stanley Morton is the chair of the Purchasing and Tendering Committee and deputy-chair of the Board of Works and Engineering while Reginald Burrows is the chair of the Board of Immigration
And Lt. Col. David Burch will be taking over from Walter Lister MP as the head of the West End Development Corporation.
Perhaps heralding a new relationship between the Development Applications Board and one of its most outspoken critics, the National Trust, the board announced its newest member, Amanda Outerbridge. Ms Outerbridge spent ten years as the executive director of the National Trust, a position she vacated in August of 2003 for a new post at XL.
After the angry resignation of National Drug Commission chair Reverend Andrew Doughty in November, the position has officially filled by Roderic Pearman JP, the former deputy-chair. Rev. Doughty?s resignation came amidst controversy over the incorporation of the NDC within the Ministry of Health.
In other boards, John Gardner has taken over the chair of the Architects Registration Council from former head Stanley Kennedy.
Barbara Astwood takes over for Kareen Richards as the the chair of the Bermuda Nursing Council.
In the Bermuda Psychologists Registration Council has a new head with Donaldo Laurenceo taking over for Dr. Guy Fowle.
Donna Hendrickson is the new chair of the Board of Chiropodists, taking over for Dr. Germaine Binns.
Simone Hollis is the new chair of Board of Dietitians, replacing Jessica Wade.
The Board of Trustees of the Golf Courses have a new chair with Michael Emery taking over for Elvin James.
Alan Burland has taken over the Building Appeals Tribunal from Stanley Kennedy.
The Consumer Affairs Board is now chaired by Trevor Fyfe, taking over for William Madeiros.
F.C. Bean is heading up the Fire Services Advisory Board, replacing Col. Eugene Raynor.
The General Improvement Area Tribunal is now chaired by Wendell Emery JP, who takes over from Arnold Todd III.
Milton Scott JP has been appointed chair of the Government Employment (Health Insurance) Management Committee, replacing Bertram McPhee.
The new chair of the Land Valuation Appeals Tribunal will be Elizabeth Jones who takes the reins from Kevin George.
Herman Tucker replaced Nalton Brangman as charman of the National Training Board.
The only change of chair in the Parish Councils is in Pembroke where Harold Smith is taking over for Vincent Ratteray.
The new chairman of the Professional Engineers Registration Council is Christopher Nash who is taking over for Bruce Perinchief.
Sandra Thornhill is the new head of the Professions Supplementary to Medicine Council.
Public Service Vehicles Licensing Board is now headed up by Joella Dawn Simmons.
Tax Convention Appeal Tribunal Panel is no longer headed up by lawyer Anthony Whaley, but is now under Shirley Simmons.
The Bermuda Family Council is now headed up by Christopher Dill, who takes over from Romelle Warner.
Calvin Smith JP will be the new head of the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation, taking over from Paul King.
