Controversial computer guru James Martin has received planning approval for landscaping on his multi-million dollar home on Agar's Island.

Mr. Martin has been at the centre of a storm over development and planning for his island home for over two years now.

In March 2001 the Development Applications Board (DAB) put a stop work notice on the property after dozens of infractions were discovered where building had gone ahead on the island without permission or contrary to submitted plans. At the heart of the row was the 44-foot atrium built in the home - almost 18 feet higher than allowed by Planning regulations.

Mr. Martin applied for retroactive approval in August, however his application was denied. In December he submitted to the DAB a proposal to add a balcony to the atrium with the intention of bringing the atrium to a regulated height, but again he proved unsuccessful.

Now Mr. Martin has received planning approval for landscaping on the island. Neither he nor his lawyer, Nadine Forrest, could be reached for comment yesterday, however.
