A streamlined ticketing system starting Monday will reduce bottlenecks for ferry commuters.

Transport Minister Dr. Ewart Brown said people could buy tickets on-board, in a similar system to buses, eliminating the need for turnstyles at terminals which created queues.

Crewmen will verify a passenger has paid or has the correct token and passengers will not have to queue again when they get off to prove they have paid. There will be no change in the fares charged.

Dr. Brown said the new system would make the bus and ferry system consistent, make it more user friendly and prepare the way for electronic fares system proposed in the National Transport Management Plan.

Assistant Marine and Ports Director Mike Dolding said bus and ferry tickets were currently interchangeable but the two might be combined into one standard transport ticket.
