Only one impaired driving arrest
Only one person was arrested over the New Year festivities for allegedly driving while over the alcohol limit.
They were stopped on Parsons Road in Pembroke just after 10 p.m. on Monday and taken to Hamilton Police Station for questioning.
But the lone arrest was welcome news for Police, who last night said they hoped it was a sign that fewer people were drinking and driving.
Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said: "We would like to thank the public for making wise decisions and finding alternative forms of transport this New Year.
"We hope this is an indication of good things to come in the up coming year.
"This is one of the best years we have had on record. People obviously still had a good time, but took smart decisions and chose not to drink and drive."
Up to last Friday, there had been 20 arrests for impaired driving during December. Full figures for this year have not yet been published.
