Two men appeared in court yesterday charged in connection with the brutal attack on a 63-year-old man in his home in Sandys on Saturday.

Roddell Lightbourne, 31, and Duvall Binns, 33, of Cricket Lane, Sandys, were remanded in custody until 16 January when they appeared before Magistrate Will Francis charged with burglary and unlawful wounding.

Police said over the weekend that the man handed over money following the break-in in the early hours Saturday at his home in Cambridge Road, but he was then badly beaten by the burglars.

The man, who suffered a broken jaw in the attack, was described yesterday as in a "stable" condition but has been moved from the intensive care unit to a general ward in the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
