Police Commissioner Jonathan Smith's job is being advertised.

A Police spokesman confirmed the advertisement was part of the procedure for the $131,427 a year post.

By law the post has to be advertised every three years. It is understood Mr. Smith will be re-applying for the job when his contract expires in April.

Applications for the three-year post have to be in by Wednesday, February 11.

The job description states: "Main duties include the overall supervision of the service's operation; the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policing strategies and programmes and as the service's accounting officer.

"The post holder must be an individual who is committed to the strategic objectives of the Bermuda Police Service and developing and maintaining excellent relations with the community.

"The post holder must also have been a keen performance focus, good leadership and teambuilding skills, and the rigour and sensitivity to deal with the complex and competing policing demands."
