Mystery surrounds what Premier Jennifer Smith will say tonight when she addresses the nation on both local TV stations.

She will speak at 7.30 p.m. and VSB is planning to run a political analysis programme at 7.45 p.m.

Government MPs emerging from the regular caucus meeting last night said the Premier had not even informed them she was making a statement.

"You've made me curious," said backbencher Derrick Burgess.

He said he had just left caucus and no mention of any televised statement was made.

"That comes as a complete surprise," said Dale Butler. "Normally she would at least say 'members I am making a statement tomorrow, but I can't tell you what it is about'."

Opposition Leader Grant Gibbons also said he was in the dark about what would be discussed.
