A man was told yesterday that the court had previously been treating him too nicely when he pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to stealing two purses.

The court heard that on January 27, Aaron Dill, 27, of Southampton stole a handbag and contents valued at $1,200 out of a car parked in Southampton.

That same day he stole another ladies purse from a car parked in the same vicinity. The purse and contents valued at $300 were later recovered.

One of the car owners saw Dill acting suspiciously and looking into cars and she took down his licence plate number as he drove away. The Police tracked the number to Dill and he was apprehended.

Yesterday, Crown counsel Wayne Caines told the court that Dill had a list of previous stealing convictions and that he was a self-confessed heroin addict.

Dill told Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves he was intending on starting drug treatment and that he knew what he had done was wrong.

Mr. Greaves said: "You have never had to pay for any of your offences.

"The court has treated you so nicely."

He ordered a Bermuda Assessment Referral Clinic (BARC) report.
