Towards the end of next week everyone should know what events Government has planned in celebration of Bermuda's quincentennial.

This year marks the 500th anniversary of Juan de Bermudez' discovery of the Island and Government has set up a committee to arrange events and publicise the news.

On Thursday the Bermuda Philatelic Bureau released a series of five stamps to mark the anniversary.

A member of the committee said that this week's International Race weekend is considered the first event of the quincentennial celebrations and that something has been planned for every month this year culminating in a major concert toward the end of the year.

A calendar detailing the events is expected to be released "towards the end of next week," the committee member said.
