Registration closes for Sandys by-election

Registration for the March 4 Sandys North by-election closed yesterday, with just a handful of people filing updates to the Voter?s List.

Eligible voters for the Sandys North by-election, which has to be held to fill the vacancy created by the death of the late Eugene Cox, had until 5 p.m. yesterday to ensure they were registered for the vote.Parliamentary Registrar Sabrina Phillips said that there had been both address changes and new additions to the register.

Voters were given a week to update their details.

The Parliamentary Registration office will be publishing a draft voters list for the poll by the end of this week, and another week will be given to check for inaccuracies or omissions.

For last summer?s General Election, 1,037 people were registered to vote in Sandys North.

The polling station will be located in Somerset Primary School, but classes at the school will not be affected.

Voting will take place on Thursday, March 4, from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
