Schools dig deep for tsunami relief
Just about every school in Bermuda is now either taking part, or has managed to raise money for the South Asia Tsunami Relief effort.
West Pembroke Primary?s raffle at the school has already committed $2,000 to the Bermuda Red Cross and P6 children manage to raise an additional $330 in a bake sale.
The school contributed $5,000 in the Fall to the Hurricane Relief Fund.
St. George?s Preparatory School, who suffered their own loss in Hurricane Fabian more than a year ago, held a grub day and bake and sale and raised $2,500.
The school hopes to present a very big cheque to the Red Cross at the end of the term and plan to increase their donation by selling Valentine?s Day candies, coins for the cause drives, IFS Spring catalogue fundraising events and a car wash.
Most schools on the Island are planning grub days including East End Primary, St. David?s Primary, Somerset Primary School, Heron Bay Primary School, Gilbert Institute, Northlands Primary and Victor Scott Primary.
Meanwhile Port Royal Primary School will be holding a bake sale on January 18 and offering hot lunches for sale to students on February 4.
Harrington Sound Primary School is hosting a penny drive to raise money and will be donating their funds to the Bermuda Help Sri Lanka Relief Fund.
The student council at Dellwood Middle School is spearheading a fund raiser by asking students to canvass their immediate neighbourhoods to collect funds for the relief efforts.
The school?s corporate partners have also offered to do a casual day at work and have Dellwood students personally collect funds from the Bank of Bermuda on a designated day.
