A teen who admitted yesterday sexually assaulting a young woman outside Warwick Lanes last year will be sentenced in March.

Gilbert Paul James (Beefy) Bovell admitted kissing the 20-year-old girl and forcing his hands inside her panties and into her on December 12 last year.

Crown counsel Wayne Caines said the girl arrived at the Pembroke Hamilton Club in the evening with friends who were in a dance company and began collecting sponsorship money. Bovell, 19, sponsored the girl, whom he knew, for $10 and went with her to get some food at the bowling alley then went outside with her to the car park.

The girl tried to get him to stop as Bovell forced his hands inside her clothing and eventually managed to push him off and report the matter to Police.

She told officers that after the attack, Bovell, of West Avenue, Southampton, asked her not to tell anyone about the incident.

Mr. Caines said attacks on women were becoming commonplace and he called on Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves to impose a heavy sentence to deter others.

"There are a plethora of these offences in this community and I would ask, that for the sake of others considering these offences, to impose a sentence that will send a message that this will not be tolerated in our society," said Mr. Caines.

Bovell said: "She had been drinking and she called me to come over and I came with her.

"I wanted to get some food. We went outside walking and talking and she leaned on me and she gave me a hug. We went round the corner and it just happened from there. I didn't mean to do it. My girlfriend has just had a baby."

Mr. Greaves suspended sentence on Bovell until March 21 for a social enquiry report.

He told him: "You can't invade the promised land. You can't rush people, you have to draw them in or you are in so much trouble."
