Sewage pipe repaired

Divers from Anchor Marine assisted by Works and Engineering in St. George's yesterday managed to fix a cracked pipe which was leaking untreated sewage into the sea near Tobacco Bay.

The problem came to light when concerned residents called The Royal Gazette about sewage seen floating near the popular bathing spot over the weekend.

St. George's Mayor, E. Michael Jones said yesterday that the Works and Engineering Supervisor, Shannon Outerbridge had been on hand to manufacture a special metal sleeve which had been fitted over the cracked pipe by divers yesterday morning.

"Hopefully everything will return to normal now," he said.

Mr. Jones said the crack appeared to be very recent, but just to make sure the Department of Health had also been called out.

"And I have their word that everything is OK," he said.
