The Air Canada flight which left passengers stranded on the runway for hours on Sunday before having to postpone the flight until yesterday made it safely to Canada yesterday morning.

An airport operations spokesman said the flight departed for Toronto's Pearson Airport shortly before 9 a.m. after over-nighting in Bermuda.

The flight's arrival in Bermuda on Sunday was delayed thanks to snowstorms in Toronto, however crew expected to leave Bermuda just two hours after its scheduled departure time of 1.10 p.m.

When the crew encountered technical difficulties, however, the plane was forced to stay on the runway for hours while the problem was fixed.

Passengers were asked to stay onboard to allow a quick getaway once the problem was solved. Crew members are only allowed to work a certain amount of hours before they are forced by airline regulations to take a break.

However passengers estimated that, as the day stretched on, between 25-30 frustrated people elected to disembark the plane anyway. Between the crew unloading and reloading luggage, as well as caring for other passengers, their working hours were exceeded around 8 p.m. Sunday night. At that point crew were no longer allowed to fly.

Therefore all remaining passengers had to also disembark, and the plane over-nighted in Bermuda.

Despite the long hours and frustration, all passenger accounts praised the crew for a job well done, saying all questions had been answered, extra food provided, and every effort made to rectify the problems.
