Students, visitors cope with bus delays

Students travelling home last night expressed their anger at the decision by bus drivers to continue their industrial action.

Many complained that they arrived late for classes and then faced delays when they made their way home.

Bermuda College student, Deann Minors said: ?This morning number three bus to St. George?s was 15 minuets late and it made me late for school.?

CedarBridge Academy students were also affected by the bus cancellations.

Chae Foggo said: ?I was 50 minutes late for school this morning and missed a whole class because the bus was late.?

Four female CedarBridge students claimed they were 30 minuets late for school and then had problems getting home once lessons ended.

Christina Belboda said: ?A lot of students had to walk from CedarBridge to Crow Lane to catch the bus home.

When asked if teachers were understanding of late students she said: ?Someone announced on the school loudspeaker that a bus just got in and to give the students three minutes to get to class.?

Leah Mills said: ?My bus was supposed to come at 7.40 a.m. but came at 7.55 a.m. but some teachers understood about being late.?

Devondra Sealey said: ?I had to walk to Hamilton from CedarBridge to catch a bus to St. George?s.?

Student Sanshae Morrissey was lucky to get a ride from a teacher to the Hamilton bus terminal from Cedarbridge.

A tourist visiting Bermuda for a bowling tournament almost missed the tournament on Saturday because of the industrial action.

Juanita Sharper of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania said: ?The inconvenience with the buses wouldn?t stop me from coming back to the Island ? I love it here.?

Ms Sharper and her mother have visited Bermuda several times and normally rent cycles.

?This year we decided to take the bus ? unfortunately when a strike was going on,? she said.
