Days after they allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old girl leaving her bleeding profusely near a Reid Street night club, two teenagers appeared in Magistrates' Court to answer for serious assault charges yesterday.

Shauntiah Rawlins, 16, of Loyal Hill Devonshire, and Latroy Santucci, 17, of Tea Room Hill, Warwick, were hauled before Magistrate William Francis, under heavy Police presence.

As the two teens stood silently, their mothers held back tears as Mr. Francis read out the charges of intent to do grievous bodily harm, unlawful wounding and possession of an offensive weapon, namely a knife on December 30.

The two were not required to enter a plea as the indictable offences will be dealt with in Supreme Court.

The victim, who lost four pints of blood from two puncture wounds to her abdomen and back, was released from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital Wednesday after recovering over the New Year.

She was stabbed in the vicinity of the Champions Night Club early Sunday after being jumped by a gang of attackers.

During yesterday afternoon's session, arguments ensued between Crown counsel Cindy Clarke and defence lawyer Larry Mussenden on bail conditions for the two teens.

Mr. Francis released the teens on $5,000 bail with a like surety, a 9 p.m.-to-6 a.m. curfew and an order they have no contact with the victim.

Earlier this week, the victim's mother voiced outrage that Police had not apprehended any suspects, saying that her daughter's wounds had been life threatening.

The victim's mother was not present at the court proceedings.

Santucci and Rawlins will next appear in court January 31.
