A 15-year-old was imprisoned for two months for breaking and entering yesterday during a hearing in Juvenile Court.

The young teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, refused to speak in his defence and was unrepresented.

The teenager's mother late last week had asked Magistrate Tyrone Chin if the case could be adjourned as she had been unable to secure legal representation, but her request was refused on the basis that she had had enough time.

Crown counsel Graveney Bannister's three witness told the court about fingerprint evidence that linked the young man to the crime.

The first witness, D.c. Joel Hayward told the court that he had lifted and photographed fingerprints found on the louver windowpane in the door, and a palm print on a dresser in the bedroom, on June 4.

Sgt. Gail Corea who works in the Hamilton CID testified that she had fingerprinted the young man in relation to another matter on October 31. As a result, his finger and palm prints were cross-matched by Det. Sgt. Peter Thompson on November 14.

Mr. Chin asked the young man if he wanted to give evidence on his own behalf, but the young man sat quietly and barely uttered a word.

The teenager, who is currently serving time in the Co-Ed Facility in St. George's on another matter, was sentenced to a further two months, running consecutively.

Mr. Chin ordered a psychiatric report, and ordered the the boy return to the court on February 19 for review.
