Some of the findings from a recent survey on health care released by the Bermuda Hospitals Board:

Of the 148 people surveyed who had been patients at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) in the past six months, 86 percent said they were either completely or mostly satisfied with the quality of care received on their most recent visit.

Of those who said they or a family member had received care from St. Brendan's in the six-month period, 81 percent were either completely or mostly satisfied with the quality of care provided.

48 percent said they considered the quality of healthcare in Bermuda to be the same as five years ago.

33 percent said they considered cancer to be the greatest overall threat to residents, while 30 percent said diabetes is the greatest threat. Twenty-seven percent and 17 percent said substance abuse and stress respectively are the greatest challenges to mental health on the Island.

26 percent of those questioned have travelled overseas for medical treatment, primarily because the medical attention was not available on the Island.

l 64 percent of those questioned said they prefer to receive health-related information from their family doctor, while 35 percent prefer to get information from the Internet.
