UBP executives resign without explanation

United Bermuda Party executive officer Gordon Johnson and party member Jim Butterfield have resigned from their posts.

Mr. Johnson told The Royal Gazette on Wednesday night that he resigned in December. He declined to offer any reasons for his resignation.

The Royal Gazette has been unable to speak with Mr. Butterfield on the issue.

The news was revealed after an anonymous fax blasting Opposition leaders - party chairwoman Gwyneth Rawlins and leader Grant Gibbons in particular - was sent to The Royal Gazette offices on Wednesday.

"It is the policy of the United Bermuda Party not to comment on scurrilous and irresponsible allegations made by individuals operating under a cloak of anonymity," party spokesman Jamahl Simmons said on Wednesday night.
