Stormy seas and high winds wreaked havoc around the Island overnight on Monday - leading to a busy few hours for Harbour Radio and Marine Police.

Four boats needed assistance across the Island as winds hit 25 to 35 knots in the evening.

A Harbour Radio spokesman said: "On Monday evening, the Donchery, a 39-foot local sailboat, was disabled off Devonshire Dock. We had no communication with the Donchery and there was no response from its cell phone.

"The Eureka, a fishing vessel, could not assist them and the Sea Box brought them into Flatts.

"The pleasure craft Sunbird, a 34 foot white cabin cruiser, assisted the Donchery with a tow from Flatts to Ferry Reach at 9 p.m."

The Sunbird also assisted the Mainship, that had been disabled off Spanish Point, and at 10.50 p.m. reported her safe at Barr's Bay.

A 35-foot ketch, the Greenfire, also ran aground in Franks Bay, east of Five Star Island, in Southampton, at about 8.30 a.m. yesterday.

When Marine Police arrived on the scene, the Marine and Ports boat Princeton was already dealing with the problem and the owners had been called.

Meanwhile, in nearby Jews Bay, at 7.40 a.m. yesterday, the Little Wing, a 30-foot sailboat, ran aground. Marine Police attended to the incident, but they decided to wait until the next high tide at 5 p.m. yesterday to try and get the boat off the rocks.
