...while evicted Salvation Army tenants are re-housed
Amidst fears they would have to force men out on the street, the Salvation Army Emergency Housing Complex yesterday confirmed that temporary accommodations were found for the five men set for eviction.
However the renovations which caused the housing scramble ? which were scheduled to begin yesterday ? have been put on hold.
?Everyone has been accommodated back within the complex,? the shelter?s manger, Lionel Cann, confirmed. Though seven residents expected to be displaced when their home, ?Booth One? closed Mr. Cann said additional beds had to be found for only five men last night.
Renovations, which include a new cement floor, were due to start yesterday; however work had not commenced and Mr. Cann could not confirm when the Department of Works and Engineering would start.
It was feared earlier this week that the complex, which is owned by the Government and managed by the Salvation Army, would have to force seven men out of the shelter. In November Mr. Cann served notice to the 17 residents of Booth One that they had to be out by January 1.
