A young woman remained in critical condition in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital last night following a road accident last week.

Chandre Young, 20, suffered serious head and spinal injuries after the bike she was riding hit a car and then an ambulance in the early hours of last Thursday.

She was travelling west along Middle Road in Paget at about 1 a.m. when she struck the back of a car, which had apparently stopped to allow an ambulance, approaching from the opposite direction, to pass.

The accident occurred near to St. Paul's Lane.

Police said Ms Young, from Warwick, was knocked into the path of the oncoming ambulance, suffering serious injuries, including fractured vertebrae, chest and head injuries.

The young woman, a former student of CedarBridge Academy who now works at Gibbons Company, has been in the intensive care unit at the hospital since. Last night, her condition remained critical.
