A memorial service is to be held later this month to celebrate the life of Bermudian Boyd Gatton who died in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, at St. Peter's Church in St. George's, where Mr. Gatton grew up.

Friends belonging to the 38-year-old from New Jersey, where he lived for a number of years before his death, are expected to travel to Bermuda to pay their final respects.

The former Saltus Grammar School student was one of two Bermudians who lost their lives when terrorists hijacked two planes and crashed them into New York's Twin Towers on the morning of September 11.

Mr. Gatton was working for Fiduciary Trust Company International on the 97th floor of the second of the twin towers to be hit - just above where the plane entered the building - leaving no hope that he would survive.

Rhondelle Tankard, also from Bermuda, was working in one of the towers for Aon (Bermuda) on the day of the attacks. She had been seconded to the New York office for two months just the weekend before the atrocity and had been working at the towers for just a day.

A service for the 31-year-old was held last month.
