Sixteen years after giving birth to twin girls, Claudette Fleming has done it again.

On January 5, the director of Age Concern became the proud mother of a second set of twins, Joshua and Kaelyn.

?I had the ultrasound and when the lady said I was having twins, my first reaction was to have my husband arrested,? Mrs. Fleming said yesterday with a ?twin?-kle in her eye.

Her husband Keithlyn described the latest arrival of twins ?a blessing?.

While it is not rare to give birth to two sets of twins, Mrs. Fleming said her own research showed it was uncommon to have them back to back.

?There are a number of cases of multiples ? having twins or triplets ? but we are not willing to experiment to see if it will happen again.?

Mrs. Fleming was 20 when she gave birth to Akilah and Aquilah.

She was about to embark on a university career, which was delayed by five years.

?It was a surprise,? she said. ?I had to make an adjustment.?

But it was easier now that she had teenage daughters to help with the babies.

She said the girls had to make adjustments to their lives when their baby brother and sister were born.

?When the second set were first born it was a shock to the system because at the time their grandmother was ill and they had to take on even more responsibility,? she said.

The teenagers enjoyed cradling their sleeping siblings in their arms yesterday.

In an increasingly expensive Bermuda, Mrs. Fleming said having four mouths to feed was more difficult than the 1990s, but she would not have it any other way.

?It is more expensive now for everything, including food and clothing,? she said. ?It is more difficult now. We are in a better position. But just babysitters cost $150 per week for each baby.?
