A 23-year-old was fined $2,000 for importing cannabis to the Island on January 12.

In Magistrates? Court on Thursday, Sontoi Wayne Ming of Glenwood Park, Warwick, admitted to bringing in 1.53 grams of cannabis on a commercial flight from Canada. Crown counsel Anthony Blackman said Ming had a previous conviction for drugs.

On May 29, 2003 Ming failed to pay $250 for not having a vehicle licence, $1,000 for not having any third party insurance and $1,500 for being in possession of cannabis.

Ming was ordered to pay his old fines by the end of the day or spend six months in prison.
