Hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid parking tickets may remain lost now as the tickets themselves have expired.

The Royal Gazette ran several stories earlier this year detailing how some 20 percent of motorists do not pay their parking tickets, and that no one has been brought to court for such a violation in more than two years.

Though senior Magistrates' Court administrator Tracey Kelley said in March that he expected more would be done to bring such offenders to court, he told The Royal Gazette yesterday: "Nothing has changed".

And Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Kulandra Ratneser yesterday admitted nothing was done to follow up on the unpaid parking fines as most of the fines were older than six months - meaning the tickets have now expired.

It is estimated those tickets add up to around $600,000 in lost fines.

"It was never followed up," Mr. Ratneser said yesterday.

The Royal Gazette understands that a committee has been set up to target the issue, but was unable to ascertain further information yesterday.
