Airport parking goes high-tech

Free parking at the Airport is over. New and improved pay-and-display machines were unveiled yesterday as part of the Department of Airport Operations? effort to upgrade the Airport since Hurricane Fabian. The machines ? up and running since July 1 ? will enable motorists to pay for parking by credit card. The old ones broke down because of water and wind damage during the September 5 hurricane last year. ?We have taken the opportunity to ensure that the Airport is, in fact, significantly improved,? Airport general manager James Howes said. ?In keeping with this objective the short term parking facility features two upgraded parking bays for the disabled, which are situated in a more convenient location ensuring that the pay-and-display machines can be easily accessible to wheelchair users.?

Mr. Howes said the solar-powered machines were environmentally friendly and ?ultimately make payment more convenient.
