In other Senate business yesterday notices of motion were filed to implement a new $4.25 aviation security fee at the airport and to waive importation duty for a new tour boat.

The new airport fee is intended to defray costs of extra security at the airport. The fee is to be in place by January 1, 2002.

And Stephen Brown of Destiny Tours is seeking a five-year duty deferral on a new tour boat intended to be used for cruises and charters.

The WildCat tour boat came in under a similar deferral last year.

A motion to be moved by Opposition Senator Kim Swan was carried over until next week's Senate session.

The motion reads: "That a Joint Select Committee of the Senate and the House of Assembly be appointed to investigate and report on the advantages and disadvantages to membership in CARICOM, and to make any recommendations the Committee deems appropriate as a result of its investigation."

When the same motion was attempted to be tabled by UBP MP Maxwell Burgess in Parliament last Friday, Speaker of the House Stanley Lowe personally carried it over leading to an impromptu Opposition walk-out.

Mr. Lowe said he intended to give the Lower House a written explanation of his actions with regard to the motion in Parliament tomorrow.
