A woman alone on a boat on Tuesday night contacted Harbour Radio because she was frightened by a lightning storm.

The Harbour Radio duty officer said he received a call at 7.45 p.m. from a woman aboard the Uisce Beatha.

She was waiting for some friends who were diving on the wreck of Pelinaion, which is about half a mile southeast of St. David's Lighthouse, when she noticed the lightning.

The duty officer said the woman was anxious because she didn't expect her friends to resurface for another 25 minutes and feared facing worsening weather alone in the darkness.

He told her that the lightning was moving away from the area and reassured her that she was safely secured to moorings. He said she was also told that if she needed assistance she could call them again for help.

`'She was comforted by the reassurance and was happy to make contact with someone who could explain the situation to her,'' he said.

The woman was relieved when the divers surfaced shortly after 8 p.m. and the group arrived safely at Coney Island just before 8.45 p.m.
