Governor-designate Sir John Vereker arrives on the Island April 9, Acting Governor Tim Gurney confirmed yesterday.

The Royal Gazette understands that Sir John will be sworn in at Cabinet Office by the Chief Justice on April 11.

Sir John was initially expected to arrive this month. But that was delayed due to developments in Afghanistan.

Sir John's current duties as Permanent Secretary for International Development became more critical with recent developments in that country.

Since the rout of the Taliban regime, the department has been working with international agencies to assist in the country's reconstruction.
