Heroin case goes to Supreme Court: A Pembroke man will be sent to Supreme Court to face charges of heroin possession.

Melvin Bernard Stevens, 55, was charged with one count of possession of heroin valued at $36,000 and two counts of possession of equipment for use in preparation of a controlled drug namely a scale and a piece of glass.

Stevens appeared in Magistrates' Court without representation on Thursday.

Crown counsel Shakira Dill had no objection to bail but asked that Stevens' travel documents be surrendered.

Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves set bail at $10,000 with a surety.

Stevens will appear in court again on April 28.

Woman bites policeman in arm: A woman who bit a Police officer in the arm was sentenced to three months in jail in Magistrates' Court yesterday. Tanya Osewe of Spring Hill, Warwick, pleaded guilty to assaulting a Police officer. The court heard that she was arguing with a man on March 20 in her front yard. When Police arrived and tried to separate them, Osewe grabbed Policeman Michael Law and bit him on the arm. She was fighting and fell to the ground where she wounded her head and had to be taken to the hospital. Acting Senior Magistrate Carlisle Greaves told Osewe that when a Police officer comes onto her property she should immediately treat him with respect.

"With all these fancy diseases knocking around you need to learn to show a Police officer respect when he comes to your place," he said. Osewe pleaded guilty to assault.
