Yesterday?s prison officers? meeting caused chaos yesterday when remand inmates were left at Westgate rather than brought to Supreme Court.

Dozens of inmates were supposed to appear at the monthly arraignments hearing but they were left in their cells because prison officers were at the mass meeting in Hamilton.

As a result, remand prisoners will be brought for a rearranged arraignment session next Monday.

The only accused brought before Chief Justice Richard Ground yesterday were those on bail.

A handful of prison officers and Police officers were responsible for security of those appearing.

Crown Counsel Vinette Graham-Allen asked for the 26 remand cases to be heard on Monday.

Of the new cases, Kenneth David Anthony Hill and Zekristos Lee pleaded not guilty to wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Phillip Dwayne Doars on November 26 last year. Their bail was continued for mention on July 1.

Ryan Sidney Burgess and Kenneth O?Brien Caines pleaded not guilty to robbing Marlon Rewan in Pembroke on November 29 last year.

Caines also denied wounding Stevon Rewan and Devon Rewan with intent to do grievous bodily harm on the same date. Bail was continued for mention on July 1.

David Jahwell Cox and Michael Puckerin denied robbing Usecto Durrant of a gold chain on November 10 last year and were released on bail for mention on July 1.

Kyjuan Roshune Saltus and Danita Trott denied conspiring with others to import heroin and cocaine between an unknown date and December 21 last year, and of importing the drugs on the same dates.

Trott also pleaded not guilty to possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply on December 21 last year. Both had bail continued for mention on June 1.

A trial date is expected to be set for lawyer and former Progressive Labour Party MP Julian Hall.

Hall is to appear on August 2 for a trial date to be set and his bail was continued.

Hall, of Foothills Road, Devonshire, denies five counts of stealing a total of $551,044 from elderly widow Betty Lorraine McMahon between November 8, 1995 and February 20, 1996.

He appeared in person and was represented by Leo Mills.

Another 25 people who were on bail yesterday appeared briefly before Mr. Justice Ground for mention or to have trial dates set.

The Crown did not oppose the continuation of bail for any of the defendants.
