A dead baby Sperm whale was found off Watch Hill Park, Smith's Parish yesterday.

The carcass of the one-year-old 17-foot whale will be stripped and then put on display at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.

Captain Derek Exell, of the Fisheries Department, said: “It's obviously been dead for some time. It had a lot of rope in its stomach. It looks like the sharks have had a good time with it.

“I couldn't say if it was attacked or it died of something else and they were doing their job as natural scavengers. We will be up here for the rest of the night stripping the flesh.”

Captain Exell said the whale was probably passing the Island on its annual migration. He said: “They started coming early this year - in January.”
