Bank evacuates after package containing powder is found

The Bank of Bermuda's Par-La-Ville Road office had to evacuate staff after a DHL package appeared to contain a powdery substance was found yesterday morning.

Around 60 ground floor staff were forced to stop work at the Easy Link Centre and the Business Banking Centre at around 10.15 a.m.

Both were closed for the rest of the day.

Emergency services rushed to retrieve the package for tests.

Police said yesterday that the suspicious package found at the St. George's home of a US immigration official had proved to be harmless after a similar alert had prompted a Code Red response from fire fighters and Police.
