Bascome motion on Senate agenda

Senators will today debate an Opposition take note motion on society's handling of prisoners after their release.

Senator Kenneth Bascome is expected to move the motion which reads "that the Senate take note of the urgent need for reform to the current system of releasing inmates without proper concern for their lack of housing, employment, ability to take care of outstanding liabilities, such as child support, and the need for a Halfway House to support the work of the Transitional Living Centre."

The Senator has long been concerned about the penal system, which he argues has some severe flaws.

No other business is planned for the Upper Chamber today.
