Belco worker gets electric shock

A Belco worker suffered an electric shock while working in a manhole in the Fairylands neighbourhood yesterday afternoon.

The man was rushed to hospital for checks after the accident, which happened at a private address in Fairylands Road as he was working on a subterranean power cable around 1.30 p.m.

Belco is carrying out its own investigation into the cause of the accident, however it is believed the worker was not seriously hurt and he was expected to leave hospital last night having been checked over.

Linda Smith Wilson, Belco?s communications executive, said: ?He was held in hospital for observation. He had received a shock.

?We have a safety department who are looking into the incident.?

A Police spokesman said: ?There was no visible injury. He did receive a shock but never lost consciousness. He was advised to go to the hospital.?
