Speaker Stanley Lowe said yesterday that Auditor General Larry Dennis' damning report on the Berkeley project would be debated in the House “sooner rather than later.”

Last week in Parliament, Mr. Scott tabled the Auditor's special report on Berkeley as a “take note motion”, which means it could be months before it is discussed in the House of Assembly.

But yesterday Mr. Lowe said of the motion: “I believe the preponderance of interest in this matter already exhibited by members of the House and the general public of Bermuda is such that honourable members, and through them, the general public, should have the benefit of discussing this issue in the open forum of the whole house sooner rather than later.”

He also apologised for not giving the opposition more notice of his intention to end last week's debate early because of the Speaker's dinner later that night.

The Opposition had complained of giving very little notice that the session would end just after lunch.
