While Berkeley students yesterday lapped up the sumptuous facilities now available at the new school it emerged the gym roof has already sprung a leak.

Three large trash bins have been placed on the new NBA sized basketball court to catch the drops.

Principal Michelle Simmons told : ?We did have a few leaks in the roof during Hurricane Florence but hopefully they will be repaired very quickly.?

Yesterday Government said it was aware of the leak in the gym roof and was addressing the issue at the school which built $50 million over budget and three years late.

A statement from the Ministry of Works and Engineering and Housing said: ?The matter became apparent after the strong rainfall a few days before we experienced Hurricane Florence.

?While it is unfortunate, it is not unusual, for a newly-completed roof to have some issues.

?As soon as the condition came to light the Ministry of Works and Engineering and Housing discussed the matter with the roof installer who is addressing the situation.

?The necessary repairs are anticipated to be completed very shortly.?
