Bermuda officers honoured by DEA
Two local Police officers were honoured by the Atlanta Drug Enforcement Administration in June, the Bermuda Police Service announced yesterday.
Det. Sgt. Dennis Gordon and Det. Con. Alickson Severin were involved in a drug sting code named Operation Hole In One, which ran from 1999 to 2002.
They worked in co-operation with drug enforcement agencies in Atlanta, Miami, Jamaica and other Bermuda Police officers and Customs officers to break up a drug ring.
They said they were the investigating officers and were assisted by the Commercial Crime Unit, Narcotics Unit and the Customs department.
They travelled between the countries for three years and in 2000 they made the first arrests.
They had gone to Atlanta to give evidence in one of the trials in June and were given the awards in a surprise, special ceremony.
