Police seek witnesses to weekend robbery

A knife-wielding robber made off with just $40 after a weekend raid on a music store.

Two men entered Dub City on North Shore Road, Hamilton, at around 11.20 p.m. on Sunday while a member of staff was preparing the float for the next day.

One of the suspects produced a knife and reached over and took around $40 in cash from the till while the other suspect waited by the door. The men then escaped on a motorcycle.

The suspect with the knife is described as dark skinned, approximately five-foot-11 inches in height, thin, wearing a black ski mask, black helmet, black jacket and gloves.

The other suspect was dark skinned, wearing a red scarf covering the lower portion of his face, a black helmet and gloves.

Police are appealing for any witness to this incident or anyone with any information to contact Eastern CID on 297-1122.

Police probe break-ins

Police reported two incidents of breaking and entering which took place last Tuesday.

The first occurred at a Tribe Road residence in Paget. The complainant told Police that sometime between 10.15 a.m. and 4 p.m. someone broke into his house and stole an undisclosed amount of money.

The second occurred sometime last Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning at a Spice Hill residence in Warwick.

The complaint told Police that he arrived home from work and went to bed at around 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday night. When he awoke the next morning, someone had broken into his home and stole an undisclosed amount of money.

Inquiries into both of these incidents are underway.

Good deed turns into bad scene

A good Samaritan who offered three men a ride was repaid by being beaten and robbed last Tuesday night.

The man told Police he was driving his car at 7.30 p.m. along Palmetto Road in Devonshire when he saw three men walking. He offered the three a ride, which they accepted.

However, as the man drove along Parson's Lane, he was assaulted by the three and robbed of his personal effects and a large sum of money. He was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries, then released.

Rugger robbed of wallet

A brave thief snatched a generous rugby player's wallet before running off late on Monday night.

The 42-year-old New Zealand player, on the Island for the World Rugby Classic, was on Parliament Street, Hamilton, at 10.15 p.m. when a man approached him and asked for a few dollars.

When the Kiwi got his wallet out to give the man some cash, the suspect snatched it and escaped on foot.

The suspect is described as black, five-foot-7-inches to five-foot-8-inches, of average build with a round face and thick eyebrows.

He was clean shaven, with a low hair cut and dressed in white t-shirt, blue tracksuit pants and white or silver sneakers.

The wallet contained $130 in cash and other personal items.
