Fire chiefs have ruled out a connection between four brush fires on Monday.

The first blaze occurred at about 1.45 a.m. on Mount Hill, Pembroke, and took 20 minutes to put out. Nearly an hour later firemen went to The Slip Road, St. George's, to deal with a 20 square foot blaze.

The two other fires broke out at Dutton Avenue near Bernard Park, Pembroke, at 11.36 p.m and ten minutes later off Cedar Avenue, near Dellwood school.

Fire Service spokesman Lt. Dana Lovell said there was no evidence to suggest a relation between the fires.

The Fire Service was called out on Monday evening to deal with the fourth accident in four days on Harbour Road.

The 5.34 p.m. accident ? photographed in yesterday ? near the junction of Pomander Road and The Lane in Paget involved a car and a bike and resulted in one man being taken to hospital with leg injuries. The accident caused traffic jams for the second time that day after commuters were held up for up to three hours after a truck overturned further west on Harbour Road.

And on Friday, commuters leaving Hamilton were again held up when there were two accidents within half an hour of each other, one of which also involved a motorcyclist injuring his leg in a collision at the Pomander Road junction.

Fire Service spokesman Lt. Dana Lovell said of Monday's accident: "A 25-year-old had a leg injury. He had abrasions and contusions on his leg ... He was treated on the scene and taken to hospital."

At 11.20 p.m. the Fire Service was called to the junction of The Glebe Road and North Shore Road in Devonshire where a taxi and motorcycle were in collision and a 66-year-old man received injuries to his left arm and the fingers on his left hand.

Thieves broke into a classroom at Saltus Junior School.

Their haul included a silver Toshiba 20 inch TV with both a DVD and built-in VCR, and a Dell Optiplex computer with a 15 inch flat screen.

The break-in occurred between 3 p.m. on Sunday and 7 a.m. on Monday.

Less than five hours later, thieves made off with jewellery and $700 in cash ? including $500 in US notes ? from Grape Bay Drive in Paget.

The theft occurred between 11.10 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. Police are investigating.

American tourist Evan Michael Perry was fined $500 in Magistrates' Court yesterday after pleading guilty to importing one gramme of cannabis.

Perry, 32, from New York, was arrested at the Airport on September 23 after sniffer dogs alerted authorities to a zip-lock bag containing the drug hidden in his groin area.
